Going forward, the Prosecutors' Office is expected to hold staff workshops on Jeju Island, and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety will do "workations" (remote work at resorts) on Ulleung Island in North Gyeongsang Province. The ministry said on the 15th that, under the push for the "win-win sisterhood for saving the provinces," it has completed "matching" between 50 central government ministries and 141 cities, counties, and districts in areas with declining populations or disaster damage.
The win-win sisterhood for saving the provinces was pursued to help revive regional economies outside the capital area. Going forward, central ministries must conduct exchanges with their matched regions, including Hometown Love donations, workations, purchases of local specialties, and holding workshops. The 141 places paired with the government are: ▲122 cities, counties, and districts excluding metropolitan cities and the capital area (including Sejong and Jeju) ▲12 declining-population (watch list) areas among non-capital metropolitan cities ▲7 declining-population (watch list) areas within the capital area.
For example, the Ministry of Employment and Labor was matched with Taebaek in Gangwon, Yeongam in South Jeolla, and Gyeongsan in North Gyeongsang, and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family was matched with Geochang in South Gyeongsang and Wonju in Gangwon. The Ministry of the Interior and Safety was paired with Gapyeong in Gyeonggi, Cheorwon in Gangwon, Goesan in North Chungcheong, Buyeo in South Chungcheong, Gochang in North Jeolla, Damyang in South Jeolla, Yeongyang in North Gyeongsang, Miryang in South Gyeongsang, and Ulleung in North Gyeongsang. Jeju Island formed ties with the Prosecutors' Office; Busan did so with the Personal Information Protection Commission (Seo District), the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (Geumjeong District), the Public Procurement Service (Yeongdo), the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Jung District), and the Fair Trade Commission (Dong District).
The government plans to encourage such provincial sisterhoods at public institutions and private corporations as well. Minister Yun Ho-jung of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety said, "We will support regions in regaining vitality through win-win exchanges with local communities so that local economies can recover quickly."
