Rain is expected on the east coast of Gangwon. Relatively heavy rain is forecasted for the northern and southern regions of the east coast, including Sokcho and Samcheok. However, only a small amount of rain is expected in Gangneung, which is suffering from a drought.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 4th, the rain currently falling primarily in the central region of Korea is expected to move to the east coast soon. An official from the Korea Meteorological Administration explained, "The influence of the easterly winds between the high pressure located over the northern part of the East Sea and Typhoon No. 15 'Peipah' formed south of Japan."
The problem is that the rain is concentrated only in the southern and northern parts of the east coast, while only a little rain is expected in the central region where Gangneung is located. The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasted that 5 to 20 mm of rain would fall in the northern east coast of Gangwon, where Sokcho is located, and 10 to 60 mm in the southern east coast of Gangwon, where Donghae and Samcheok are located. Only about 5 mm of rain is expected in the central east coast of Gangwon, which includes Gangneung.
On that day, the precipitation in areas outside the east coast was forecasted as follows: ▲ 5 to 10 mm in southern Gyeonggi, the five western islands, and the western coast of North Jeolla ▲ about 5 mm in Seoul, Incheon, northern Gyeonggi, northern Jeolla's western coast, Ulleungdo, and Dokdo.
Rain is expected over the weekend on the 6th and 7th. However, during this time, easterly winds will not blow into Korea, so there will be no precipitation in the Yeongdong region of Gangwon. Rain will fall in the capital region, inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon, Chungcheong, and Jeolla regions in the morning of the 6th, and from the afternoon, in the Gyeongsang region and Jeju Island. Rain is expected to gradually cease in the central region on the afternoon of the 7th.
During this period, there will be regions where heavy rain warnings are issued. In Honam, where rain is expected to be most concentrated, it may rain 30 to 50 mm per hour.
Next week, on the 8th and 9th, rain is expected in Jeju and the southern regions. If a low-pressure system develops and moves in from the west, it could draw rain clouds upward, potentially expanding the rain-affected areas further north.
