The Ministry of Employment and Labor and police are currently conducting a search and seizure operation targeting the headquarters of Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL), KORAIL's Daegu headquarters, and subcontractor headquarters related to a train accident that occurred on the 1st near Cheongdo-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, which resulted in the deaths of two workers and injuries to five.
The Daegu Regional Employment and Labor Office and Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Police are deploying 65 labor inspectors and police to secure relevant documents, PCs, and the mobile phones of those involved, focusing on whether safety measures to prevent collision risks from trains in operation were properly implemented, including train entry permits and preliminary plans.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor noted, 'Based on the evidence secured through this search and seizure, we plan to thoroughly clarify the cause of the accident as well as to investigate promptly and rigorously any violations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act and the Serious Accidents Punishment Act.'
Earlier, on the 19th of last month, seven workers inspecting an embankment at the Gyeongbu Line railroad in Cheongdo-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, were hit by a train in operation, resulting in two deaths and five injuries.
