On the 25th, a scorching heat with a perceived temperature around 35 degrees continues across the nation. There are forecasts of rain that will temporarily cool down this heat within today or tomorrow. In areas with heavy rainfall such as Incheon and Gyeonggi, over 100mm of rain is anticipated over the next two days.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, an extreme heat warning has been issued nationwide as of 2 p.m. that day. Currently, an extreme heat warning is in effect for all but Hallasan (Jeju Mountain) among the 183 terrestrial weather warning areas. The highest perceived temperatures include ▲35.9 degrees in Geumsan, Yeoju, Gyeonggi ▲35.6 degrees in Deokpung, Hanam, Gyeonggi ▲36.2 degrees in Dongbong, Samcheok, Gangwon ▲34.3 degrees in Cheongchu, Chungbuk ▲36 degrees in Gurye, Jeonnam ▲35.5 degrees in Changwon, Gyeongnam ▲35.1 degrees in Andong, Gyeongbuk ▲35.5 degrees in Gujwa, Jeju.
Rain is expected nationwide from that day until the afternoon of the 26th. From the 25th to the 26th, total precipitation is expected to be ▲30-80mm in the metropolitan area and the five islands in the West Sea (over 100mm in northern Incheon and Gyeonggi) ▲20-60mm in inland Gangwon, Gangwon mountains, Chungcheong, and Jeolla (over 80mm in many areas of inland Gangwon, Chungnam, and northern Chungbuk) ▲5-30mm in Gyeongsang and Jeju. Only light rain around 5mm is expected in the severely drought-stricken eastern coast of Gangwon.
Rain is also expected on the 27th in the Gangwon Yeongdong or western inland regions of Gyeongsang. However, the amount of rain is not expected to be much, around 5mm (5-20mm in western inland Gyeongsang).
As rain falls, some extreme heat warnings will be lifted or eased. However, it seems the heat will not completely subside. A Korea Meteorological Administration official noted, "While temperatures are expected to drop slightly from this rain, they will still remain higher than the average temperatures for the season," adding, "After the rain or showers stop, the temperature will rise again during the day due to high humidity, making it feel hot."
