Yeosu City and Gwangju Metropolitan City Gwangsan District have been designated as 'employment crisis proactive response areas.' Corporations and workers in regions designated as employment crisis proactive response areas can receive support such as employment retention subsidies, training costs, and living stabilization fund loans for six months.
Minister Kim Young-hoon chaired the employment policy deliberation meeting on the 19th, where this was confirmed.
Previously, Yeosu City, which experienced a recession in the petrochemical industry in the Yeosu National Industrial Complex, and Gwangsan District in Gwangju, which faced a massive fire at the Kumho Tire Gwangju factory and a chain of bankruptcies involving DAEYU affiliates, had applied to the government for designation as employment crisis areas.
The government has been operating the existing employment crisis area system, but due to criticisms that the quantitative requirements are stringent, it established and implemented the 'employment crisis proactive response area' system on the 31st of last month, easing the criteria and support details. Accordingly, Yeosu and Gwangju Gwangsan District were designated as the first proactive response areas.
The deliberation council also reviewed and passed an amendment to the operation regulations of the National Employment Support System. Previously, unemployed people in the middle-aged and older age group within the employment crisis proactive response areas could only participate if their median income was below 100%, but with this amendment, participation is now possible regardless of income level.
In addition, the deliberation council decided to restructure low-performing financial support job projects, involving 186 projects last year, and adjust similar and duplicate projects.
