Minister Kim Young-hoon of the Ministry of Employment and Labor conducted an unannounced inspection on the 7th at a manufacturing site in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province, where 'pinch accidents' have been repeatedly occurring. This site is the third establishment that Minister Kim has visited unannounced since taking office, following the construction site in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province, and the Coupang Dongtan logistics center.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor noted that "the establishment in question has repeatedly experienced industrial accidents where workers' fingers get caught during press operations."
The results of this inspection indicated that there was a concern about pinch accidents due to the lack of safety devices installed on the press machine. Moreover, numerous safety inadequacies in forklift operations were discovered, pointing out that previously occurring accidents could adequately recur in the future.
On this day, Minister Kim met with field safety supervisors and said, "To definitely change the practice of prioritizing expense over life and neglecting safety, we need to continue managing the business sites closely in the future," adding, "We must concentrate all administrative power, not only of safety supervisors but also of the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency and private disaster prevention organizations, to verify and verify high-risk establishments."
Minister Kim also met with foreign workers under the Employment Permit System (E-9) working at the establishment. He urged the field personnel to ensure that foreign workers can work safely without discrimination.
