The heavy rain has receded and the heatwave has arrived. Currently, heatwave advisories are in effect in most areas nationwide. In particular, 'heatwave warnings' have been issued for Gangneung, Samcheok, and Yangyang in Gangwon Province, as well as Wando in South Jeolla and Sejong. This week, many areas will suffer from tropical nights or experience intermittent showers.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 21st, as of 10 a.m. that day, heatwave warnings are in effect for the plains of Gangneung, Samcheok, and Yangyang in Gangwon Province, Wando in South Jeolla, and Sejong. The heatwave warning is issued when the maximum temperature is expected to remain above 35 degrees for more than two days.
The heatwave advisory, which is issued when the maximum temperature is expected to exceed 33 degrees, is currently in effect in most other regions. This includes Gyeonggi Province cities such as Gwacheon, Suwon, Seongnam, Anyang, Pyeongtaek, Yongin, Icheon, Anseong, Yeoju, and Yangpyeong, as well as the eastern coast of Gangwon Province including Donghae, Sokcho, and Goseong, Yeongwol, Jeongseon, Hoengseong, Wonju, Hwacheon, Hongcheon plains, Chuncheon, southern Gangwon mountainous regions, Chungnam (excluding Taean, Seosan, and Gyeryong), Chungbuk including Cheongju, Okcheon, Yeongdong, Chungju, and Jecheon, Jeonnam (excluding Wando and Heuksandao), Jeonbuk, Gyeongbuk including Gumi, Gyeongsan, Seongju, Chilgok, Gimcheon, Pohang, and Gyeongju, Gyeongnam including Yangsan, Changwon, Gimhae, Miryang, Hapcheon, Changnyeong, Hadong, Hamyang, and Hapcheon, Jeju, the southwestern part of Seoul (Gangseo, Yangcheon, Guro, Yeongdeungpo, Dongjak, Gwanak, and Geumcheon), Daejeon, Gwangju, Daegu (excluding Gunwi), Busan, and Ulsan including Uljin.
As of 10 a.m. that day, the temperatures are ▲Seoul 28 degrees ▲Incheon 27.7 degrees ▲Suwon 28.3 degrees ▲Gangneung 32.1 degrees ▲Hongseong 28.8 degrees ▲Cheongju 29.8 degrees ▲Daejeon 29.7 degrees ▲Jeonju 30.9 degrees ▲Gwangju 30.3 degrees ▲Mokpo 29.8 degrees ▲Yeosu 27.1 degrees ▲Changwon 28 degrees ▲Busan 28.5 degrees ▲Ulsan 29.2 degrees ▲Pohang 30.2 degrees ▲Daegu 27.6 degrees ▲Andong 27.4 degrees ▲Jeju 30.9 degrees, etc. The expected maximum temperature during the day is between 30 and 34 degrees.
The Korea Meteorological Administration noted, 'For the time being, the maximum perceived temperature will rise to around 33 degrees in most areas, making it hot, and some regions will experience tropical nights.' A tropical night refers to the phenomenon where temperatures remain above 25 degrees from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. the following day.
In some areas, there will be showers. Starting from the morning of that day, there will be showers in the Jeonbuk and Gyeongbuk regions, and in the afternoon, showers are forecast for Seoul, inland Gyeonggi Province, the inland and mountainous regions of Gangwon, and Chungcheong Province. Particularly strong showers are expected, especially in the southern region. In Jeolla and Gyeongsang Provinces, there could be more than 80 mm of rain from the showers that day. On Tuesday, the 22nd, showers are forecast in the capital region, Gangwon, Chungcheong, Jeolla, and Gyeongbuk, and on Wednesday, the 23rd, showers are expected in northern Gyeonggi, Gangwon, northern Chungbuk, and northern Gyeongbuk.
The Korea Meteorological Administration stated, 'In areas receiving showers, the precipitation will show periods of lull or may fall heavily, leading to significant differences in precipitation amounts even within the same area.'
