The Ministry of Justice has decided to form a 'disaster recovery support team' led by Director General Seung Jae-hyun to assist with the recovery of human and property damage caused by heavy rainfall in the Gyeonggi, Chungnam, Jeonnam, and Gyeongnam regions.
On the morning of the 20th, the Ministry of Justice held an emergency inspection meeting presided over by Minister Jeong Seong-ho and noted, "We inspected the situation at facilities under each department and discussed practical and swift support measures for the residents of the affected areas."
During the meeting, Minister Jeong said, "I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved families and residents of the flood-affected areas who are experiencing great sorrow and hardship," and instructed, "Please do your utmost to work closely with related agencies to ensure the prompt protection and support of the affected residents through the disaster recovery support team."
He instructed Acting Prosecutor General Norman Seok (Vice Administrator of the Supreme Public Prosecutors' Office) to prepare measures such as 'refrain from summoning affected residents' for the swift recovery of flood-affected areas.
The Ministry of Justice plans to establish a 'disaster victim legal support team' composed of the Korea Legal Aid Corporation (KLAC), legal home doctors, and village lawyers to provide legal consultation for insurance claims and offer integrated support through the Ministry of Justice's 'one-stop solution center' (1577-1701).
In addition, the Ministry of Justice stated that when a special disaster area is declared due to flooding, it will waive various residence and nationality permit fees for foreign nationals residing in the affected areas, and temporarily suspend the enforcement and payment of fines for illegally residing foreigners. Furthermore, it will actively consider the urgent deployment of individuals subject to community service orders to the disaster site.
