Minister Yoon Ho-joong said regarding the damage from the heavy rain, "We will activate the intergovernmental recovery headquarters to push for a seamless transition from response to recovery," and "I will recommend to the President the declaration of special disaster areas according to the standards and procedures for areas that have suffered significant damage."
On the first day of his inauguration, the 20th, Minister Yoon presided over a meeting of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters, stating, "I will promptly carry out damage assessments."
He noted, "To quickly fill the 7-month vacancy of the Minister of the Interior and Safety, I came into the meeting of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters as the very first action at the start of my term," adding, "I will fulfill the role given to the Minister of the Interior and Safety with the conviction that protecting the lives and safety of the people is the nation's top priority."
Minister Yoon urged the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and local governments to "ensure that victims in temporary shelters do not experience inconvenience by carefully managing the support of relief supplies and to focus all efforts on emergency recovery," and "to operate the 'Integrated Support Center for Victims,' which is a one-stop support system for those significantly affected."
He also said, "Once the heavy rain ends and the heat wave arrives, please ensure thorough quarantine activities to prevent infectious diseases," and "Since many people can go on vacation starting today with rivers and valleys rising, please make efforts to restrict access to dangerous water play areas."
Minister Yoon stated, "I pray for the souls of the deceased who passed away due to this heavy rain, and I extend my deepest condolences to the affected citizens."
