Yoon Ho-jung, the candidate for Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, said, "I will fulfill the basic duty of the state to protect the lives and safety of the people."
Candidate Yoon said during the confirmation hearing held at the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee in Yeouido, Seoul, on the 18th, "I send my deepest condolences to the citizens affected by the heavy rainfall that has continued for several days."
He stated, "I will make every effort to minimize the loss of life and property caused by disasters occurring each season, including the recent intensifying heatwaves and severe weather, and I will reorganize the legislation, including the 'Basic Law on Life Safety', to implement the people's right to safety and foster the disaster safety industry and workforce."
He also mentioned, "I will comfort and remember the pain of the victims of social tragedies and their bereaved families who have endured harsh times for a long time," and added, "I will make every effort to ensure that innocent citizens are never sacrificed in vain again."
He also stated that he would respond to the crisis of local extinction. He said, "I will mobilize all policies and capabilities available to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, such as the Local Extinction Response Fund, support for areas experiencing population decline, and the Hometown Love Donation Program," and further added, "Taking the 30th anniversary of local autonomy into account, I will push for fiscal decentralization again and strengthen local legislative and administrative authority."
Candidate Yoon also said, "I will realize a democratic government using artificial intelligence (AI)," and added, "I will intensify public AI investment at the government level, and at times, public AI will pull the private sector as well."
