Recently, as the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is resurging in neighboring countries such as China, Lee Han-gyeong, head of the Disaster and Safety Management Headquarters of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, visited the Chungbuk Cheongju Medical Center on the 26th to check the domestic infectious disease management situation.
According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the current number of COVID-19 hospitalized patients in the country is ▲127 in the fifth week of April ▲115 in the first week of May ▲146 in the second week of May ▲100 in the third week of May, indicating it is being managed stably. However, considering the possibility of overseas inflow and the recent increase in cases during the summer, careful attention to epidemic prevention management is necessary.
The Deputy Minister noted, "I hope that high-risk citizens, including seniors aged 65 and older and immunocompromised individuals, will actively participate in vaccination to prepare for the resurgence of COVID."
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency explained that the currently used vaccine (JN.1) has shown effective immune responses against the variant viruses currently circulating domestically and internationally.
