The Ministry of the Interior and Safety recently formed an internal 'national planning advisory committee preparation task force (TF),' according to reports on the 20th. The national planning advisory committee operated as a de facto transition committee when the Moon Jae-in administration began. The previous president was ousted through impeachment, and a new president took office after a snap election, resulting in no formal transition committee being established. It is the same situation this time, so the Ministry of the Interior and Safety has reportedly prepared a temporary organization in advance.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety issued personnel appointments for the national planning advisory committee preparation TF on the 19th. Kim Kyung-hee, the head of the Records Service Division of the Ministry, was appointed as the TF head. Thirteen employees from the Ministry at levels 5 to 8 were assigned to the task force. It appears the TF will be responsible for preparing various aspects, such as office environment and IT support, in anticipation of the establishment of the national planning committee after the new government takes office.
A Ministry of the Interior and Safety official noted, 'There has been no confirmation on whether the next government will establish the national planning advisory committee, but there was an internal judgment that we should be prepared to operate an organization that will partially fulfill that role.'
Earlier, when the Moon Jae-in administration began, former National Assembly member Kim Jin-pyo served as the chairperson of the national planning advisory committee, tasked with incorporating presidential election pledges into the national five-year plan.
