The government is promoting the 'local talent development support project' to strengthen connections between high school students and local universities, systematically nurturing local talent. This project is centered on the concentrated development of local talent at the pre- and post-admission stages in connection with the 'local innovation-centered university support system' (RISE) fully implemented by the Ministry of Education starting this year.
According to the Ministry of Education on the 17th, this year, four metropolitan local governments outside the capital area will be selected to support a total project cost of 12.3 billion won over five years, including local funding, for pilot operation.
First, to ensure that local high school students can experience quality university education, a high school-university linkage education program will be operated. Subjects completed by students at the local university will be recognized as credits in the high school credit system or after enrolling in the university.
Additionally, support will be provided for local universities to expand related local talent selection processes, reflecting the demand for personnel in local strategic specialization fields. An 'pre-college' program will also be operated to help incoming students adapt well to university through local talent selection.
Each region can propose a local talent development support model that connects the local RISE plan with this project. For example, if linked with the support project for operating 'essential local doctor system', a specialized biology curriculum can be provided through the university linkage education program at the high school level. Subsequently, at the university admission stage, students with a high likelihood of settlement can be selected through a specialized model of the local talent selection process developed by the university.
Regions wishing to participate in the project must submit their project proposal by May 9 in cooperation with universities, education offices, and other relevant institutions.
