Seven business sites, including Nuvotec and SY, were confirmed and notified of serious industrial accidents in the second half of last year.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced on the 16th that seven business sites, including Doosung Industry, Taesung Construction, Mandeok Construction, Nuvotec, Sanghyun Engineering & Construction, Shinil Precision Industry, and SY, violated the Serious Accident Punishment Act due to industrial accidents from July to December of last year. All executives of these business sites were sentenced to suspended prison terms.
Since September 2023, the ministry has been publicly disclosing business sites with confirmed and notified sentences for violations of the Serious Accident Punishment Act every six months. The names of the business sites, the date, time, and details of the accidents, and their history of serious accidents over the past five years are made public. It was recorded that a total of 15 executives received guilty verdicts in the last three years since the enforcement of the Serious Accident Punishment Act.
At Sanghyun Engineering & Construction, an incident occurred in March 2023 in Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do, where a worker fell to the ground while moving on a work platform from a sixth-floor balcony during construction. At SY, in July 2023, a worker died after getting caught in machinery while applying protective film to a coil combined with an uncoiler at a construction materials manufacturing plant.
In May 2023, at Shinil Precision Industry, a worker died after getting trapped between a robot arm and a work support during a check of an industrial robot, and in February 2022, at Doosung Industry, 16 workers suffered acute poisoning while handling hazardous materials.
