The music and iris image of singer G-Dragon were transmitted into space by the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) satellite technology.
On the 10th, the KAIST Space Research Institute announced that Professor Jin-jun Lee of the Graduate School of Cultural Technology successfully collaborated with G-Dragon on the world's first media art-based 'space music transmission project' the previous day.
This project was proposed as part of 'AI entertainment technology' promoted by KAIST in collaboration with Galaxy Corporation, the artificial intelligence (AI) metaverse corporation that represents G-Dragon.
It is a project to transmit G-Dragon's messages and music into space.
The experiment is called 'space cultural content' that connects the 'emotional signals of expanding the universe within the human spirit to the outer universe' with KAIST's advanced space technology, Professor Jin-jun Lee's media art works, and G-Dragon's voice and music.
Professor Jin-jun Lee created the media art piece 'Iris' by using generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology based on G-Dragon's iris image, combining it with the sound data of the Emille bell, which contains a millennium of time.
The symbolic performance was completed by combining G-Dragon's audio message from the music 'Home Sweet Home' with the transmission into outer space.
The music was transmitted using the antenna of the next-generation small satellite No. 2, which was launched aboard Nuri on May 2023.
The video was screened using projection mapping on a 13-meter space antenna (a technology that creates visual changes by projecting light and images onto actual structures).
Professor Jin-jun Lee explained the purpose of the work by saying, "The iris is a symbol reflecting inner emotions and identity, often called the 'mirror of the soul.' Through this work, I wanted to express 'the infinite universe seen through humanity's inner perspective' following G-Dragon's gaze."
G-Dragon noted, "It's amazing that the world can share music through scientific advancement, and it still feels surreal to send a song I cherish into space. I'm really excited, and I hope my song has 'truly found its home.'"
