The damage caused by the large forest fire that occurred in the Gyeongbuk region is estimated to exceed 1 trillion won.
According to Gyeongbuk Province on the 3rd, the damage amount for five cities and counties as of the day before was about 800 billion won. Although damage assessments for roads, cultural properties, and sports/religious facilities have been completed, the assessment rate for the extensive forest damage is only 29.8%. The area affected by the forest fire reached a record high of 40,5157 hectares.
Dwellings accounted for 68.9%, crop damage was at 85.9%, and livestock damage has been assessed at up to 98%. Gyeongbuk Province reports that the scale of damage is continually increasing, and the estimated amount of damage from this forest fire is expected to far exceed 1 trillion won.
This forest fire destroyed 3,987 dwellings. Of these, 3,915 were completely burned down, 30 were about half burned, and 42 had parts of the buildings burned. The region with the most significant damage to dwellings was Yeongdeok, where 1,520 were lost. Following were Andong with 1,230, Cheongsong with 770, Uiseong with 357, and Yeongyang with 110.
The damage in the agriculture and livestock sectors is substantial. The area of crop damage reached 3,785 hectares, with fruit tree damage accounting for most of it at 3,645 hectares. A total of 423 greenhouses, 217 livestock barns, and 6,230 farm machines were burned and suffered damage.
As the forest fire spread to the east coast, 23 fishing boats and 78 fishermen's dwellings were destroyed in Yeongdeok. Thirteen fishing nets disappeared, causing a loss of about 5 billion won, and one unregistered vessel and three recreational boats also sustained damage. In five aquaculture sites, 360,000 fish such as eel and mullet died, resulting in damages of about 3 billion won. Three fish processing companies had their factories and 16 warehouses completely burned down, resulting in damages of 3.5 billion won, along with 16 storage facilities and seven dryers of individual fishing households also being burned.
Communication facilities have been restored to 96.7% for wireless and 96.5% for wired connections, while cable broadcasting has been restored to 89.6%. Drinking water supply has been completely restored, but restoration is still ongoing for one sewage facility. Electric restoration work is ongoing for 179 dwellings and buildings.
Additionally, damage has been reported for 65 small and medium-sized enterprises and 135 small businesses.
