The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasted that light rain of about 5 mm will fall in regions affected by large wildfires, including North Gyeongsang Province, until the night of the 27th. After the rain clouds pass, dry weather is expected to continue until early next month.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, warm and humid winds are blowing from the southwest, while cold and dry winds are coming from the northwest. The collision of these different winds has created long and narrow rain clouds. The rain clouds are weakening as they cross the Taebaek Mountains and the Baekdudaegan mountain range. Therefore, the wildfire areas will only receive rain on this day, with no rain forecasted from the 28th until the 6th of next month.
Winds are also expected to be strong. According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, most regions nationwide will experience gusts of up to 15 m/s. Currently, the wildfire is spreading at a speed of 8-10 km/h due to phenomena such as flying sparks carried by the wind. Concerns are being raised that the strong winds will make firefighting difficult.
In our country, on the 28th, a high-pressure system will form in the west and a low-pressure system in the east. Cold and dry winds will sweep in from the northwest between the high and low pressure, and the winds will become much drier as they cross the Taebaek Mountains. Currently, dry weather warnings issued for the entire North Gyeongsang Province may be expanded to other regions.
