According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters, as of 8 p.m. on the 27th, one additional death was confirmed in North Gyeongsang Province, raising the total death toll to 28.
By region, North Gyeongsang Province reported 24 deaths, 3 seriously injured, and 18 with minor injuries, with the most significant damage centered around Uiseong. South Gyeongsang Province recorded 4 deaths, 5 seriously injured, and 4 with minor injuries, totaling 13 casualties, while Ulsan reported 2 with minor injuries.
As of 6 p.m. that day, there were 11 locations affected by medium and large forest fires. Of these, firefighting operations are ongoing in 7 sites, including Muju, where the fire started the previous day. The forest area affected by the fire that began on the 21st in Sancheong, South Gyeongsang Province, is recorded as 38,665 hectares (equivalent to 54,153 soccer fields).
As of 7 p.m. that day, 37,829 residents have evacuated to nearby areas due to the forest fire. Among them, 8,536 have not yet returned home.
The damage to facilities has also increased, affecting 2,639 places including dwellings, factories, warehouses, temples, and cultural properties.
Meanwhile, at the forest fire site in Uiseong, North Gyeongsang Province, which has been the hardest hit, 80 firefighting helicopters and nearly 5,000 personnel were deployed today. The winds calmed during the day, preventing the flames from spreading rapidly. Additionally, the light rain that fell for about 5 minutes in the evening has increased the firefighting completion rate from 44% in the morning to 62% as of 6 p.m.
The firefighting completion rate in Sancheong and Hadong, South Gyeongsang Province, has reached 81%, and the forest fire in Onyang-eup, Ulju, Ulsan, was completely extinguished around 8:40 p.m.
