On the 23rd, as a wildfire broke out in Unhwa-ri, Onyang-eup, Ulsan's Ulju County, an additional evacuation order was issued for 791 residents of five villages.
Including the 76 residents from the villages already under evacuation orders, a total of 867 residents from six villages have evacuated due to the wildfire.
The wildfire, which occurred around 12:12 p.m. the previous day in the hills of Unhwa-ri, Onyang-eup, Ulsan, has been ongoing for 27 hours.
The forestry authorities have issued the highest response level of stage 3 for wildfires. Stage 3 is declared when damage (estimated) area exceeds 100 hectares, average wind speed exceeds 7 m/s, and expected extinguishing time exceeds 24 hours. Accordingly, 12 helicopters, 70 firefighting vehicles, and 2,331 firefighters have been deployed.
The area affected by the wildfire, which is expected to incur damage, is 180 hectares.
As of 3 p.m., the extinguishing rate is 70%. Of a total fire line of 13.4 km, 9.02 km has been extinguished, while 4.02 km remains in progress.
The forestry authorities and police suspect that this wildfire began in a farming tent where welding work was being conducted and plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire once the extinguishing is completed.
