The Association of Presidents for Medical School Advancement (APMSA), a gathering of presidents from 40 universities with medical colleges across the country, announced on the 22nd that it has rejected the collective leave applications submitted by medical students from 35 medical colleges nationwide.
The APMSA explained in a press release that, in the processing results of each university's leave applications, 35 out of the 40 universities rejected the applications, and that procedures according to academic regulations, including consultations, will be followed for the remaining five universities, with rejections or non-approval expected to be issued next week.
Earlier, on the 19th, the APMSA had agreed in a video conference to immediately reject the leave applications of medical students and to handle academic issues such as retention or expulsion strictly according to academic regulations if they arise.
The APMSA emphasized, "Unless the reasons are military service, long-term care, pregnancy, childbirth, or parenting, all 40 universities have decided not to approve leaves of absence."
