The Ministry of Interior and Safety announced that the 10·29 Itaewon disaster victim relief deliberation committee (the committee) under the Prime Minister will launch on the 21st. The committee will review and decide on eligibility for victims according to the special law on the Itaewon disaster and will provide living and medical support funds.

The committee plans to provide psychological counseling to victims. Additionally, it will assist victims in taking a healing leave of up to six months to recover from their mental and physical injuries. It plans to provide expenses for employers who allow victims to take healing leave in consultation with the Ministry of Employment and Labor.

The committee will consist of nine members, including the Director of the Social Disaster Division of the Ministry of Interior and Safety, the Director of the Health Insurance Policy Bureau of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and the Budget Deliberation Officer for Welfare Safety of the Ministry of Economy and Finance. A Ministry of Interior and Safety official noted, 'We will hold the first meeting to discuss overall operations,' and added, 'The specifics of how much living and medical support will be provided, as well as the scope of recipients, will be determined sequentially by the committee.'
