From the night of the 2nd, a significant amount of rain or snow is expected nationwide. In the mountainous areas of Gangwon, where a heavy snow warning is in effect, more than 1 meter of snow is predicted to accumulate by the 5th. A heavy snow advisory has also been issued in the eastern part of the metropolitan area, including Seoul, as well as in North Chungcheong and North Gyeongsang.
The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasted that "rain or snow will fall nationwide as temperatures drop due to cold air moving south from the north starting in the afternoon." The cold air from the north collides with the warmer air from the south, creating rain clouds that will bring either rain or snow depending on the region.
In particular, strong snow of 3 to 5 cm per hour is expected in the inland areas of Gyeonggi, Gangwon Province, northern North Chungcheong, and northern North Gyeongsang between the night of the 2nd and the morning of the 3rd. As a result, a heavy snow advisory has been issued for inland areas of Gyeonggi and Gangwon, excluding mountainous areas. The Korea Meteorological Administration noted, "Due to the significant snowfall, there could be isolation, so please check traffic conditions in advance and thoroughly prepare winter equipment if using vehicles."
In the central region of South Chungcheong, Jeolla, and Jeju Island, heavy rain of 10 to 20 mm per hour is expected. Across the country, including Seoul, temperatures are projected to drop over time, causing rain to turn into snow in some areas.
By the 3rd, the predicted snowfall is 20 to 50 cm in the eastern coast and mountainous areas of Gangwon, 5 to 20 cm in the inland areas of Gyeonggi, Gangwon inland, and northern North Chungcheong, 10 to 40 cm in the northeastern mountainous areas of North Gyeongsang, and 3 to 10 cm in Seoul, Incheon, and the western coast of Gyeonggi. If it rains, an accumulation of 20 to 60 mm is expected in the metropolitan area and North Chungcheong, and 30 to 80 mm in the eastern coast of Gangwon, North Jeolla, and North Gyeongsang. A significant amount of rain of 20 to 80 mm is also expected in Jeju Island.
An official from the Korea Meteorological Administration stated, "As the type of precipitation changes from rain to snow, there will be many slippery roads due to freezing rain, so please maintain a safe distance when driving and drive at a low speed to avoid accidents."
On the 4th, more rain or snow is expected, particularly in the central region. The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasted, "In the mountainous areas of Gangwon, snow will fall until the 5th, accumulating more than 1 meter."
Along with the rain and snow, temperatures are expected to drop, leading to chilly weather for the time being. In Seoul, morning temperatures are predicted to be around 0 degrees. Afternoon temperatures are also expected to fall below 10 degrees.
