The Seoul Arts Center has finally removed the tablet of former President Chun Doo-hwan, which was only covered by name.

According to the Arts Center and Democratic Party lawmaker Lee Gi-heon’s office on the 13th, the Arts Center dismantled Chun's tablet, which had been placed in the flower bed next to the concert hall on the 10th.

The tablet in question was a rock inscribed with '文化藝術(문화예술)의 暢達(창달)' and 'President Chun Doo-hwan', installed at the Arts Center on Feb. 15, 1988.

After Chun was convicted of insurrection, murder, and bribery by the Supreme Court in 1997, a controversy over the removal of the tablet arose in the political arena in 2020.

The Arts Center is reported to have taken measures to obscure Chun's name, which was inscribed on the tablet, using landscaping.
