A man in his 70s was arrested by police after he allegedly killed a beekeeper and buried the body.
The Jeonbuk Jeongeup Police Station noted on the 31st that they have urgently arrested individual A on charges of murder and body disposal and are currently investigating. A is reported to have killed the beekeeper after an argument arose over a transaction involving beehives.
According to the police, A is suspected of having killed B (in his 70s) by striking him multiple times with a blunt object in his shack in Buk-myeon, Jeongeup, on the morning of the 27th, and then secretly burying the body nearby. A is said to have committed the act out of anger after judging that B had sold a hive without a queen bee.
During police questioning, A stated, "I bought a beehive about 2 to 3 years ago, but there was no queen bee so all the bees flew away. I returned to get a queen bee and fought with B."
This incident came to light when B's son reported to the police on the afternoon of the 28th, stating, "My father, who lives alone in a shack while beekeeping, has not been reachable since yesterday."
The police, who began searching, confirmed that the black box of B's vehicle parked at the shack had been forcibly removed and that evidence suggested someone had visited the shack on the 27th, leading to a formal investigation being launched on the 29th. After confirming that B had been murdered, police arrested A three days after the missing person report.
Police believe that A visited B’s shack on the morning of the 27th, quarreled with him, returned to his home in Jeongeup, and then returned to the shack to commit the crime.
A reportedly denied the crime but confessed after rigorous questioning. In the process, police discovered B's body that A had disposed of, roughly 30 meters away from the shack.
A police official stated, "We are examining whether A actually engaged in a transaction for beehives about 2 to 3 years ago and are looking into the specific motives for the crime. We plan to apply for an arrest warrant for A based on the evidence."
