With just one day before the Lunar New Year on the 28th, heavy snow warnings are in effect in most regions nationwide. In some areas of Jeju, 53.8 cm of snow has accumulated over the day since the previous day.

The Korea Meteorological Administration announced that as of 5 a.m. that day, heavy snow warnings were in effect for the central region, the Jeolla region, the inland and northeastern mountainous areas of North Gyeongsang, the inland of North Gyeongsang, and Jeju Island.

These areas are expected to receive snow at a rate of 1 cm to 3 cm per hour (up to 5 cm in some places).

From midnight the previous day to 5 a.m. that day, the maximum snow depth in the metropolitan area was recorded at 17.1 cm in Anseong, 16.4 cm in Pyeongtaek, 15.5 cm in Gwangju, and 15.4 cm in Icheon. In Seoul, it is between 2.8 cm and 10.2 cm.

In Gangwon, Chungcheong, and Jeolla regions, around 30 cm of snow has accumulated. By region, it is 27.9 cm in Hoengseong, 27.2 cm in Goseong, 32.3 cm in Jincheon, 25.1 cm in Dangjin, and 30.5 cm in Muju, all in North Chungcheong Province. The snow accumulation in the Gyeongsang region is around 10 to 20 cm.

In particular, 53.8 cm of snow has reportedly accumulated on Samgakbong in Jeju.

The Korea Meteorological Administration expects that snow will continue in the metropolitan area, inland areas, and mountainous regions of Gangwon until the afternoon, and in the Chungnam region until the afternoon of the 29th.
