In the 2025 college admission early decision recruitment, 46.1% of students admitted to Yonsei University and Korea University declined their enrollment. It is interpreted that top-tier students have been influenced by the increase in medical school admissions.
According to Jongro Academy on the 19th, out of 4,854 students who were initially admitted to Yonsei University and Korea University in this year's early decision recruitment, 2,236 students (46.1%) declined their enrollment. This percentage has increased from last year's non-enrollment rate of 40.6%.
At Yonsei University, 47.5% (1,033 students) of initially admitted students did not enroll, while at Korea University, 44.9% (1,203 students) did not enroll. The non-enrollment rates were also high among those admitted to medical (41.3%), natural sciences (48.6%), and humanities (47.7%) programs at Yonsei University and medical (55.2%), natural sciences (43.6%), and humanities (47.7%) programs at Korea University.
Students can apply for early decision up to six times and must enroll when accepted. They can only decline if accepted at another school. Lim Seong-ho, head of Jongro Academy, noted, "It seems that the increase in medical school quotas has resulted in more overlapping admissions."
