The Nuclear Safety And Security Commission and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power announced that a reactor coolant leak occurred inside the Shin Hanul Unit 2 reactor building, and they reduced reactor output starting at 10:30 a.m. on the 12th.
KHNP noted that at around 6:30 a.m. that day, an alarm was triggered by the radiation monitoring device inside the reactor building, prompting an investigation of the leak area. After confirming that a reactor coolant leak had occurred near the reactor coolant pump equipment, they decided to shut down the reactor for maintenance and reported it to the Nuclear Safety And Security Commission.
There are no unusual circumstances detected by the external radiation monitoring devices.
The Nuclear Safety And Security Commission stated, "We are currently inspecting the safety situation, including the leak condition and radiation impact," adding that a team composed of experts from the Korea Atomic Energy Safety Corporation will be dispatched to conduct an in-depth investigation into the detailed causes of the leak and maintenance status.
