The Ministry of Science and ICT announced that it held the 2nd Korea-Spain Joint Committee on Science and Technology on 4th in Barcelona, Spain. The joint committee included Hwang Seong-hoon, Director General for International Cooperation, and Deputy Minister Teresa Liego Alcaide from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. Korea and Spain discussed four areas at this joint committee: advanced bio, artificial intelligence (AI), supercomputing, and the development of natural material technology based on smart farms.
The Korean Intellectual Property Office announced that it held a meeting on IP policies to activate overseas applications on the afternoon of 5th at its Seoul office. The meeting included representatives from major corporations such as Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Hyundai Motor, and LG CHEM, as well as personnel from small and venture businesses and several research institutions. The Korean Intellectual Property Office introduced systems to help domestic companies secure patents abroad, and discussed improvement measures.
The National Research Council of Science and Technology (NST) announced it is establishing a startup support platform for government-funded research institutes and is recruiting prospective founders from the institutes until the 28th. The startup support platform supports the entire cycle of planning and launching startups, from idea generation to establishment, initial investment, and follow-up support. Support for startups will be conducted in two forms: single startups utilizing the technology of individual institutes and convergent startups combining technologies from multiple institutes.
The Women in Science and Technology (WISET) announced that it will hold a global mentoring event to cultivate the next generation of global women scientists and engineers in collaboration with the Dutch Embassy on the afternoon of the 7th at the Korea Science and Technology Center. This event will provide customized mentoring step-by-step for about 90 female students in science and engineering from domestic universities and graduate schools, led by women leaders working in Dutch companies. The mentoring event will feature participation from six female leaders active in Dutch and global corporations.
