The C/2024 G3 ATLAS comet made a dramatic appearance in the sky over Earth. This photo was taken on the 19th at the European Southern Observatory (ESO) Paranal Observatory in the Atacama Desert, Chile. The C/2024 G3 ATLAS comet, which returned to Earth after 160,000 years, reached its perihelion on the 13th. The perihelion is the point at which it is closest to the Taeyang, and it is estimated that the distance between the comet and the Taeyang at this point is about 14 million kilometers. After passing the perihelion, the envelope surrounding the comet's nucleus, known as the "coma," has become dimmer, and the icy nucleus appears to be breaking apart.
