Hanwha Hotels & Resorts announced on the 15th that it is pushing for the development of a large-scale theme park on the site of the Incheon Asian Games stadium.
On the same day, Hotels & Resorts signed a 'business agreement for revitalizing the metropolitan landfill (equestrian site)' with Incheon Metropolitan City. The signing ceremony was attended by Kim Dong-seon, Vice President of Future Vision at Hanwha Hotels & Resorts, and Yoo Jeong-bok, the mayor of Incheon, among other key officials.
The site for the theme park is the Dream Park equestrian stadium, where the 2014 Incheon Asian Games were held. The area is 170,000 square meters, equivalent to 24 football fields. The Dream Park equestrian stadium showcased various equestrian events such as show jumping, dressage, and cross-country during the Asian Games, but has since faced criticism for its declining utility. The actual number of equestrian competitions held has averaged only 1.5 times per year.
This project will be pursued through a private investment initiative (BTO) model. It is expected to include leisure cultural facilities along with the existing equestrian stadium. In addition, Hanwha Hotels & Resorts' subsidiaries Aqua Planet (aquarium), Hanwha Next (equestrian stadium), and Hanwha Food Tech (food and beverage services) will contribute to the project.
Kim Dong-seon, Vice President of Hanwha Hotels & Resorts, said, 'It is very meaningful to be able to create a new landmark in the venue that garnered the public's attention during the Asian Games in 2024' and noted, 'We will create a completely new recreational cultural space so that this area can once again be in the spotlight of the entire nation.'
