On the 30th, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that it will provide emergency support housing in collaboration with the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) for the swift recovery of the daily lives of those affected by the forest fires in Ulsan, Gyeongbuk, and Gyeongnam.
Emergency support housing is a system that provides living space immediately to disaster victims without rental costs by utilizing public rental housing. Disaster victims wishing to move in can apply to the relevant local government and, upon confirmation as eligible recipients, can take residence.
Currently, emergency support housing comprises a total of 858 units: 610 units in Gyeongbuk, 107 units in Gyeongnam, and 141 units in Ulsan.
For the first two years, the monthly rent will be covered 50% by LH and 50% by local governments, allowing disaster victims to reside without rental costs.
If desired by disaster victims, LH plans to offer the special provisions for jeonse rental housing, which allows them to move into privately owned dwellings after signing a jeonse contract. A support limit equal to the metropolitan area for disaster victims in special disaster areas will be applied (130 million won).
Based on past experiences of supporting disaster victims, such as in the Gangwon forest fire, LH plans to establish on-site support teams in affected areas and provide home visits for consultations. In collaboration with local governments and relevant agencies, it plans to prepare additional support measures such as securing additional housing through local acquisitions.
Additionally, for disaster victims whose dwellings have been damaged, even if they recover their homes in the future, funding necessary for housing restoration will be supported through the housing & urban fund at a low interest rate (1.5% per annum) for a long term.
