The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 23rd that it will hold the 2025 National Land and Transportation Data Utilization Competition from the 24th of this month to the 23rd of next month.
The competition aims to discover new industries in the land and transportation sector and contribute to the activation of data usage. It has been held since 2022 by integrating the National Land and Transportation Big Data Hackathon and the Korea Expressway Corporation Traffic Data Contest.
This year's competition will be held under the theme of "a smart land and transportation system that leaps through data." The application fields will be conducted in two categories: policy and startup ideas, and product and service development (applications can include prototypes).
Anyone with a strong interest in the land and transportation sector and a passion for solving new problems can participate individually or in teams of up to three without any restrictions.
Judging will be conducted through document review and final presentation assessments by a committee composed of industry-academia-research experts and practitioners. A total of nine teams will be selected in July.
The total prize money is 31 million won. The grand award will be given to one team along with the Minister's Award from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and a cash prize of 7 million won. The opportunity to participate in the finals of the public data utilization startup competition organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety will also be provided, along with education to enhance competitiveness.
Seven teams will receive excellence awards and one team will receive a special award, each receiving a head of agency award and a cash prize of 3 million won. As the transportation card data is opened to the private sector as a national key data, a special award to promote data utilization has also been prepared.
Yooshin Geun, a statistics officer at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, "I hope this competition will be an opportunity to enhance the value of land and transportation data," and "I ask for a lot of participation to develop various ideas and products that will drive the digital innovation era."
