CEO Joo Woo-jung of Hyundai Engineering noted on the 13th regarding the construction site collapse accident on the Ansung section of the Seoul-Sejong Expressway that "an investigation is ongoing," while refraining from further comments, he stated, "I will take responsibility."

During the National Assembly's Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee meeting that day, Representative Jeon Yong-gi of the Democratic Party of Korea raised the question, "There was outsourcing of risk. A fatal incident has occurred, and the Serious Accident Punishment Act may apply. If there are issues with Hyundai Engineering, will you take responsibility?" CEO Joo replied, "Of course, I will take responsibility."

On the 28th of last month, a collapse accident occurred at the construction site of the Ansung section of the Seoul-Sejong Expressway, resulting in 10 casualties.

In response to a question about the cause of the accident, CEO Joo stated, "I cannot speak on this matter as an investigation is underway," although he responded to suggestions that expense reduction was a reason, saying, "I will need to confirm, but I understand that there was no such content." He added, "I will do my best to ensure that the cause investigation is disclosed transparently and diligently."

CEO Joo expressed his condolences, saying, "I extend my apologies to those who have passed away and those who were injured," and he added, "We will do our utmost to provide support necessary for the families of the bereaved and the injured."

CEO Joo promised substantial changes to safety management. In response to lawmakers’ concerns following a series of fatal accidents that occurred on the 10th at the construction site of the Hillstate Apartment in Pyeongtaek City in Gyeonggi Province after the accident on the Seoul-Sejong Expressway, he said, "We are conducting an investigation that is not merely the conventional one we have been doing until now," adding, "I will do my best to bring about substantial changes to ensure that there are no safety accidents through fundamental improvements."
