The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 10th that it will begin establishing a maintenance plan for the Sewoon 6-1-1 area (located at 291-45 Euljiro 3-ga, Jung-gu) north of Myeongbo Art Hall starting next month. The project is expected to be finalized in the first half of next year.
Earlier, in June 2024, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced the 'Sewoon Redevelopment Promotion Plan', which includes a large-scale green space and a mixed-use development of commercial and residential buildings in the area surrounding Jongmyo, covering about 430,000 square meters.
This maintenance plan is expected to include plans for parkification of commercial areas, expansion of green spaces through connections to nearby open green areas, and measures to realize green spaces that can be enjoyed year-round.
In addition, plans will be established to encourage private redevelopment by introducing creative and innovative designs and prearranging buildings for efficient land use.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government expects that directly formulating the maintenance plan will enable the development of specific plans that reflect policy directions, shortening the timeline by more than a year compared to the existing resident proposal method.
To alleviate concerns about project delays and promote rational and rapid project implementation, the Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to actively support the establishment of a public-private consultative body from the maintenance planning stage, involving landowners, experts, and the public.
Jo Nam-jun, head of the Seoul Urban Space Headquarters, noted, 'For the Sewoon area to leap forward as a new global center, it is crucial to enhance appealing urban infrastructure and stimulate private redevelopment.' He added, 'Through this project, we will secure the initial momentum for the maintenance work and actively support rapid project implementation.'
