Hyundai Engineering officially apologized on the 25th regarding the bridge collapse accident that occurred at section 9 of the Sejong-Anseong section of the Seoul-Sejong Expressway.

On the same day, Hyundai Engineering issued a statement saying, “We sincerely bow our heads and apologize to those who lost precious lives and were injured due to accidents at our construction site,” and noted, “We are actively cooperating with relevant agencies to quickly recover the site and accurately identify the cause of the accident, and we will make every effort and take necessary measures.”

Hyundai Engineering dispatched employees to the site that day. It is also reported that they are considering ways to support the work affected by casualties in the future.

Around 9:49 a.m. that day, an accident occurred at section 9 of the Seoul-Sejong Expressway near Ijeong-myeon in the northwest district of Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province, where a slab structure collapsed during bridge work. Ten people fell and were buried as a result of the accident. According to the fire authorities, four people died, five were seriously injured, and one sustained minor injuries. The project is section 9 of the Seoul-Sejong Expressway, which was commissioned by the Korea Expressway Corporation. The main contractor is Hyundai Engineering, and the on-site contractors are Hyundai Engineering, Hohwan Industrial, and BUMYANG CONSTRUCTION Consortium.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport also established an accident response headquarters with Minister Park Sang-woo as the head in connection with this accident.
