Hyundai E&C announced on the 17th that it has secured two contracts for the construction of transmission lines in Saudi Arabia. The total contract amount is $389 million (approximately 512.5 billion won).
The contracts secured this time are for the construction of a solar power-associated 380 kV transmission line project ordered by the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), which will be built in the Medina and Jeddah regions.
The "Humaiji solar power-associated 380 kV power network" being established in the Medina region is a 311 km transmission line that connects the solar power plant to be constructed in Humaiji in western Saudi Arabia to a substation near Medina.
The "Coolis solar power-associated 380 kV power network" being constructed in the Jeddah region is a 180 km transmission line that connects the existing power lines near Mecca to a solar power plant to be constructed in Coolis on the western coast of Saudi Arabia. Both projects aim for completion in November 2027.
Since entering the Saudi construction market in 1975, Hyundai E&C has been carrying out large-scale projects. In particular, it has constructed numerous 380 kV transmission lines, as well as the 500 kV high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission lines, and has built the largest 4000 MW HVDC transmission line in Saudi Arabia, worth 1 trillion won, since entering the Saudi power grid business. It has also carried out the 525 kV HVDC and construction of Saudi Arabia's largest single high-voltage substation.
A representative from Hyundai E&C noted, "As the connection of the power grid due to the expansion of renewable energy is key to the reorganization of the Saudi energy market, we will complete this project in a timely manner and solidify our position in the field of renewable energy-associated power grid construction," adding, "Based on our excellent overseas construction performance, we will expand Hyundai E&C's K-power grid construction capabilities to the global market and contribute to stable power supply in the carbon-neutral era."
