The Saemangeum Development Agency announced on the 14th that it held an initiation meeting for the 'Saemangeum secondary battery specialized complex power infrastructure construction project' at the conference room of the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) Jeonbuk Headquarters.
The Saemangeum secondary battery specialized complex power infrastructure construction project, set to run from this year until 2027, will establish the Korea Electric Power Corporation as a subsidiary operator, with a total project cost of 51 billion won (25.5 billion won in government subsidies) to expand the power supply infrastructure (including power switching stations).
The Saemangeum Development Agency plans to proactively establish power supply facilities within the secondary battery specialized complex through this project. It is expected that a sufficient supply of power will be available in line with the entry timing of the secondary battery corporations that use a large amount of electricity.
At the initiation meeting, a plan was discussed for efficient early execution of the national budget (6.5 billion won) for this year, including land acquisition, permitting, design, and construction contracts, along with the overall schedule for the project.
Park Jun-hyung, head of the Development Strategy Bureau at the Saemangeum Development Agency, noted, "It is crucial for the timely establishment of supply handling facilities such as electricity for the successful creation of the Saemangeum secondary battery specialized complex," adding, "We will do our best in project management to ensure sufficient electricity supply when the resident corporations need it."
