Next year's expected sales of lottery products such as Lotto and Speedo are forecast at 8.4 trillion won. Expected lottery sales have increased in line with gross domestic product (GDP) and demographic structure, setting a new "all-time high" every year.
The Ministry of Planning and Budget held a Lottery Commission meeting on the 28th and reviewed and approved the "2027 lottery issuance plan" and related items.
The Lottery Commission estimated next year's expected lottery sales at 8.4175 trillion won, up 321.7 billion won from this year's plan. Expected proceeds are projected at 3.4278 trillion won, an increase of 138.6 billion won. Lottery proceeds are the amount remaining after deducting prize money and lottery distribution expenses from lottery sales and are used for public-interest projects.
The Lottery Commission resolved to keep the current system unchanged for the 12 existing lottery products, including face value, issuance conditions, and prize payment methods.
Meanwhile, according to the results of the "2025 Lottery Fund project performance evaluation," last year's overall average score for the Lottery Fund was 82.9 points, up 0.5 points from the previous year. Projects that received high marks included transportation services supporting mobility for transportation-disadvantaged people, nighttime protection programs for low-income children and adolescents, support for revitalizing inclusive finance for low-income households, and welfare for veterans living alone with complex illnesses.
