The government said it will take stern action if it detects acts that disrupt the foreign exchange market.
Earlier, the government called claims spreading via YouTube and messengers about "the government's forced dollar sales using an emergency fiscal and economic order" and "limits on dollar exchange volumes at the four major commercial banks" "clearly fake news," announced plans to request an investigation, and in fact filed a criminal complaint with the police.
Moon Ji-seong, director-general for international economic affairs at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, presided over a meeting of the task force on illegal foreign exchange transactions on the 3rd and said, "Spreading baseless fake news in an extraordinary crisis situation is a grave matter that can cause market anxiety and undermine policy credibility," adding, "If we detect acts that disrupt the market, such as the spread of fake news, the task force will share the information and take stern measures, including filing a police complaint."
