Snow is expected in the Seoul metropolitan area during the evening commute on the 4th. Heavy snow of about 1–3 centimeters per hour has been forecast.
According to a Korea meteorological Administration forecast briefing, there is a chance of 1–3 centimeters of snow per hour accompanied by gusty winds around 6 p.m. that day. Snow is expected to be concentrated especially in the Seoul metropolitan area and the inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon. From evening into night, there will be times when snow falls at 1–3 centimeters per hour in northern North Chungcheong.
Expected snowfall: ▲ Northeastern Gyeonggi, northern inland and mountainous Gangwon, 3–8 centimeters ▲ Seoul metropolitan area (excluding northeastern Gyeonggi), central and southern inland Gangwon, central and southern mountainous Gangwon, Sejong, northern inland South Chungcheong, northern North Chungcheong, 1–5 centimeters ▲ Jeolla region, northern North Gyeongsang, western inland Gyeongsang, and mountainous Jeju, around 1 centimeter.
A Korea meteorological Administration official said, "As snow falls in severe cold, the snow may freeze as is and turn roads into ice or cause black ice on roadways, so caution is needed."
The severe cold will continue through Friday the 5th. On the 5th, morning lows are expected to be -11 to 2 degrees, with daytime highs of 1 to 9 degrees.
It will get a bit warmer over the weekend and feel mild. On the 6th, morning lows will be -8 to 2 degrees, with daytime highs of 4 to 14 degrees. On the 7th, lows will be -1 to 8 degrees, and highs 8 to 16 degrees. However, a little snow or rain may fall in the Seoul metropolitan area and inland and mountainous Gangwon on the 6th.
Next week will be mostly clear, with temperatures slightly above average. However, as cold air moves in over the weekend next week, cold weather will return once more.
