A current issues review meeting attended by Presidential Chief of Staff for Policy Kim Yong-beom and Ministers is scheduled to be held behind closed doors this weekend, according to reports on the 28th.
According to a government official, the current issues review meeting will take place at the Financial Supervisory Service training center in Tongui-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, on the afternoon of the 30th. The meeting will be chaired by Koo Yun-cheol, Deputy Prime Minister for the economy and Minister of Economy and Finance. The government official said, "To save time, we plan to have boxed lunches and discuss various pending issues in depth."
From the presidential office, Chief Kim will attend the meeting along with Senior Secretary for Economic Growth Ha Joon-kyung.
From the government, attendees will include Deputy Prime Minister Koo, who is chairing the meeting, and Bae Kyung-hoon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT, as well as the Ministers of Land, Infrastructure and Transport; Health and Welfare; Employment and Labor (MOEL); Trade, Industry and Energy; SMEs and Startups; Climate, Energy and Environment; the Minister of the Interior and Safety; and the chair of the Financial Services Commission.
The meeting is expected to include a review of the foreign exchange market. As the won-dollar exchange rate recently climbed into the 1,470-won range, Deputy Prime Minister Koo Yun-cheol responded in quick succession with verbal intervention, activation of a four-party consultative body composed of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MOEF), the Bank of Korea (BOK), the National Pension Service, and the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and a press briefing on the foreign exchange market.
In addition, economic issues such as policies related to artificial intelligence (AI) are also expected to be discussed at the meeting.
