A worker was killed in an accident at the construction site for the southern breakwater revetment at Busan Port's Jinhae New Port, where DL E&C is in charge of construction. The Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL) said it plans to investigate whether the Serious Accidents Punishment Act was violated.
According to the labor ministry and the industry on the 17th, at about 8:39 a.m. that day, a fatal accident occurred in which a worker, identified as A, died at a marine construction site in Sudodong, Jinhae-gu, Changwon.
It is known that during the unloading of marine construction materials from a bulk cement trailer (BCT) to a barge, A, who was nearby, fell into the sea and was involved in the accident. The contractor at the site is DL E&C, and A is said to be affiliated with a subcontracted construction company.
The labor ministry is currently on site to determine the circumstances of the accident and plans to launch an investigation to determine whether the Serious Accidents Punishment Act was violated.
Earlier, in early Aug., a serious accident also occurred at DL Construction, a subsidiary of DL E&C. A worker died while working at a new apartment construction site in Singok-dong, Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi Province. At the time, the CEO of DL Construction and executives took responsibility for the incident and submitted their resignations, and the CEO's resignation was accepted.
