As cold air descends from the north, a cold wave advisory has been issued for eastern parts of the Korean Peninsula, including Gangwon, North Chungcheong, North Gyeongsang, and Busan.
The Korea meteorological Administration said that, effective 9 p.m. on the 17th, a cold wave advisory will be in effect for ▲ Gangneung lowlands, Donghae lowlands, Taebaek, Samcheok lowlands, Yeongwol, Jeongseon lowlands, Cheorwon, Hwacheon, Yanggu lowlands, Inje lowlands in Gangwon ▲ Jecheon and Danyang in North Chungcheong ▲ Yeongcheon, Chilgok, Mungyeong, Andong, Yeongju, Uiseong, Cheongsong, Yeongyang lowlands, Yeongdeok, Uljin lowlands, Pohang, and northeastern mountainous areas of North Gyeongsang ▲ central and western Busan.
The Korea meteorological Administration said, "With cold air pushing in from the north, temperatures will stay low and it will be cold for the time being," and noted, "From late night, there will be occasional rain along the West Sea coasts of South Chungcheong and Jeolla, and rain or snow may fall in the mountainous areas of Jeju."
The 18th, which is tomorrow, will be colder than today. Morning lows will drop to minus 8 C in Cheorwon and Daegwallyeong in Gangwon, minus 7 C in Paju, Gyeonggi, and minus 5 C in Chuncheon, Gangwon. Seoul is also forecast to fall to minus 4 C, the coldest so far this fall. This cold will continue through Wednesday, the 19th, and from the 20th temperatures will return to normal for this time of year.
Winds will also be strong. A strong wind advisory (gusts of 72 kph or higher) is expected to be issued for the five West Sea islands, South Chungcheong, South Jeolla, North Jeolla, Jeju, Ilcheon, and Ulleungdo and Dokdo. As a dry weather advisory has also been issued for parts of Gangwon and North Gyeongsang, caution is advised for wildfires.
