Despite the economic recession, 8 out of 10 members of the 22nd National Assembly saw their assets increase.
According to the report on the regular asset changes of members of the National Assembly for 2025 released by the National Assembly's Public Official Ethics Committee on the 27th, of the 299 members as of December 31 of last year, 231 members (77.3%) had increased assets compared to the previous year. This figure marks an increase from 35.4% in the asset disclosure for the 2024 fiscal year released in March of last year.
By scale, 36 members (15.6%) saw their assets increase by less than 50 million won. 33 members (14.3%) had an increase between 50 million won and less than 100 million won, 149 members (64.5%) saw an increase between 100 million won and less than 500 million won, 12 members (5.2%) had an increase between 500 million won and less than 1 billion won, and 1 member (0.4%) reported an increase of over 1 billion won. A total of 162 members had assets that increased by over 100 million won.
The member with the largest increase in assets was Park Jeong of the Democratic Party, who reported an increase of 1.985 billion won, totaling 36.03571 billion won in assets. This increase includes proceeds from the sale of buildings, rental income, and financial interest. Following Park, Han Gi-ho of the People Power Party had an asset increase of 941.49 million won due to the rise in official prices related to the reconstruction of an apartment in Seocho District.
On the other hand, the number of members who experienced a decrease in assets was 68 (22.7%). Among them, 21 members (30.9%) had a decrease of less than 50 million won, 12 members (17.6%) had a decrease between 50 million won and less than 100 million won, 19 members (27.9%) saw a decrease between 100 million won and less than 500 million won, 6 members (8.8%) had a decrease between 500 million won and less than 1 billion won, and 10 members (14.7%) reported a decrease of over 1 billion won.
The member who reported the largest decrease in assets was Yoon Sang-hyun of the People Power Party, who reported a decrease of 6.33417 billion won, totaling 17.72105 billion won. This decrease was largely due to a significant drop in securities assets.
In terms of asset scale, the most common category was between 1 billion won and less than 2 billion won, with 94 members (31.4%). This was followed by 88 members (29.4%) in the range of 2 billion won and less than 5 billion won, 51 members (17.1%) between 500 million won and less than 1 billion won, 33 members (11.0%) with less than 500 million won, and 33 members (11.0%) with more than 5 billion won.
The member reporting the highest total assets was Ahn Cheol-soo of the People Power Party, as was the case in the previous year. Ahn reported total assets of 136.78982 billion won, reflecting losses from AhnLab stocks. Following Ahn were Park Deok-heum of the People Power Party (53.53206 billion won) and Park Jeong of the Democratic Party (36.03571 billion won). Similarly to the previous year, only Ahn Cheol-soo and Park Deok-heum had total reported assets exceeding 50 billion won.
Additionally, People Power Party members such as Baek Jong-heon (32.35514 billion won), Ko Dong-jin (31.67412 billion won), Kim Eun-hye (27.39239 billion won), Seo Myeong-ok (25.51701 billion won), Yoon Sang-hyun (17.72105 billion won), Choi Eun-seok (11.64393 billion won), and Jeong Jeom-sik (9.916186 billion won) also ranked high in asset totals.
In contrast, Jeong Jun-ho of the Democratic Party recorded the lowest ranking with negative assets (-1.128334 billion won) due to financial debt. Other members with reported negative assets include Lee Byeong-jin (-900.458 million won) and Jin Seon-mi (-860.684 million won) of the Democratic Party.
Meanwhile, the average assets of members of the National Assembly reached 3.277233 billion won, which is 157.467 million won less than the average of 3.43470 billion won reported for the 2024 fiscal year.
