On the 26th, Lee Jun-seok, a member of the Reform Party, asserted that the results of the second trial regarding Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party, should be "respected."
That day, the lawmaker stated on his Facebook, "The politicization of politics, which is shaken by the judiciary's judgment, is not democracy."
Furthermore, the lawmaker added, "The reality of the conflicting judgments between the lower and higher courts in criminal trials involving politicians shows the instability of the judicial system, raising concerns about the politicization of the judiciary."
He emphasized, "The Reform Party will continue to deeply consider and practice solving the chronic problems of our society, known as the 'judicialization of politics' and the 'politicization of the judiciary.' On this occasion, I hope there will be no misunderstanding that the political prosecution aimed at eliminating political opponents will soon equate to conservative politics."
Earlier that afternoon, the 6th Criminal Division-2 of the Seoul High Court (Director General Cho Eun-jeong, Lee Ye-seul, Jeong Jae-o) overturned the original sentence that had sentenced Lee to one year in prison, with two years of suspended execution, due to violations of the Public Official Election Act, and declared him not guilty.
