Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, was acquitted in the second trial of the case regarding the publication of false facts under the Public Official Election Act, prompting party members to erupt in cheers. In particular, they criticized the prosecution, which had indicted Lee, pointing out that the indictment was unjustified from the start.
Chun Hyun-hee, a top member of the Democratic Party, said on the 26th via social media, "This is a day of great victory for the people and the day of the death sentence for the political prosecution," adding, "The court found Lee Jae-myung not guilty and handed a guilty verdict to the corrupt prosecution."
She stated, "It has been revealed that the investigations by the politically motivated prosecutors, who colluded in the regime of Yoon Suk-yeol to eliminate a political opponent, were fabricated and wrongful prosecutions. This is a ruling that justice has prevailed. I thank the court for restoring judicial justice."
Kim Byung-joo, another top member of the Democratic Party, said, "The acquittal of Lee Jae-myung in the appeal regarding the violation of the Public Official Election Act has been ruled," adding, "This ruling is a clear rebuttal against the unjust prosecution and political conspiracy by the prosecution." He further noted, "It is a victory for justice and truth, a victory for democracy."
Park Joo-min, a Democratic Party member, commented, "The not guilty verdict for Lee Jae-myung is a completely expected outcome. It is a victory for common sense and justice," adding, "Considering the original intent of the election law, the Supreme Court's well-established precedent, and legal principles, Lee Jae-myung was clearly not guilty."
He emphasized, "The prosecution did not enforce the law fairly but abused its power as a tool for the political purposes of certain factions. They were preoccupied with 'killing Lee Jae-myung,'" stating, "This is the reason I say that restoring judicial justice is the way to protect democracy and human rights."
On the same day, Lee was acquitted in the appeal of the election law violation case. The Seoul High Court determined that Lee's statements claiming he did not know Kim Moon-ki, the former head of Seongnam Urban Development Corporation who was a core operative during Lee's time as mayor of Seongnam, that he had never played golf with Kim while on overseas trips, and that he changed the land use of the Baekhyeon-dong site under pressure from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport were not considered publication of false facts.
