The People Power Party appointed 'four-term' lawmaker Yoon Young-suk as the chairperson of the National Assembly Pension Reform Special Committee on the 25th.
Park Hyung-soo, the chief floor spokesperson, announced in the National Assembly on the afternoon of the same day that "the four-term lawmaker Yoon has been appointed as the chairperson of the special committee."
Park noted, "Lawyer Yoon has built up experience as a four-term lawmaker and has served as the chairperson of the National Assembly's Strategy and Finance Committee. I decided to appoint him as the commissioner because I judged that he has expertise in pension reform among multi-term lawmakers."
Lawyer Yoon entered public office as the 37th administrative exam successful candidate and has worked in the Ministry of Employment and Labor and Seoul City Hall, making him an 'administrative bureaucrat.' After entering the National Assembly in the 19th general election, he was elected four terms in a row in the Yangsan gap of Gyeongnam. He has built up experience in the fiscal sector, including serving as the chairperson of the Strategy and Finance Committee in the latter half of the 21st National Assembly.
The ruling party's secretary to the special committee will be lawmaker Kim Mi-ae, who also serves as the secretary of the ruling party on the National Assembly's Health and Welfare Committee. The commissioners of the special committee include lawmakers Park Soo-min, Kim Jae-seop, Woo Jae-jun, and Kim Yong-tae. Among the total of five members, three are aged in their 30s and 40s.
Earlier, lawmakers Kim Yong-tae, Kim Jae-seop, and Woo Jae-jun of the People Power Party, as well as Lee So-young, Jang Cheol-min, and Jeon Yong-ki of the Democratic Party, and Cheon Ha-ram and Lee Joo-young of the Reformist Party demanded that more than half of the members of the National Assembly's Pension Special Committee should be lawmakers in their 30s and 40s in response to the pension reform bill, which was processed by agreement between the ruling and opposition parties. This is because they believe the voices of the younger generation must be actively reflected in future structural reform discussions. The leadership of the People Power Party accepted this. However, the Democratic Party has not yet revealed any specific policies regarding the composition of the National Assembly Pension Special Committee.
Park urged, "I hope the Democratic Party will cooperate so that many lawmakers in their 30s and 40s participate in the special committee and that the opinions of the younger generation can be reasonably reflected in the committee."
The future National Assembly Pension Special Committee is expected to discuss overall pension structural reform issues, including the introduction of automatic stabilization measures and financial stabilization measures, concerning various pensions such as national, basic, retirement, and personal pensions.
Meanwhile, the selection of ruling party committee members for the National Assembly's "Climate Crisis Special Committee" and the "2025 APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) Summit Support Special Committee" has also been finalized.
In the Climate Special Committee, three-term lawmaker Im I-ja was appointed as the ruling party's secretary. Among the commissioners are four-term lawmaker Lee Heon-seung, two-term lawmakers Jo Eun-hee and Seo Beom-soo, and first-term lawmakers Kim So-hee, Jo Ji-yeon, and Kim Yong-tae. The Climate Crisis Special Committee will comprehensively review the government's climate crisis-related measures such as greenhouse gas reduction and carbon neutrality and discuss necessary institutional improvements. It will consist of 20 members: 11 from the Democratic Party, 7 from the People Power Party, and 2 from non-affiliated groups. Its activity period is until May 29 of next year.
The chairperson of the APEC Support Special Committee will be lawmaker Kim Ki-hyun. Three-term lawmaker Lee Man-hee will serve as secretary, and the commissioners will include two-term lawmakers Lee In-sun, Jo Jeong-hun, and Kim Hyeong-dong, as well as first-term lawmakers Lee Dal-hee and Yoo Yeong-ha. Park noted, "I tried to make a lawmaker from Daegu and Gyeongbuk the chairperson, but since lawmaker Kim Seok-ki is serving as the chairperson of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee, it was not appropriate to hold both positions. So, I decided to appoint lawmaker Kim, who has held various experiences and expertise, as the chairperson."
The APEC Special Committee will support the successful hosting of the 32nd APEC Summit, which will be held in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk, at the end of October this year, at the National Assembly level. It will consist of 18 members: 10 from the Democratic Party, 7 from the People Power Party, and 1 from non-affiliated groups, and its activity period will be until December 31.
