Acting Prime Minister Han Duck-soo said on the 24th, “I sincerely ask for bipartisan cooperation from both the ruling and opposition parties so that the Republic of Korea can overcome the crisis and once again leap forward.”
Acting Prime Minister Han noted during a public address at 11:40 a.m. at the Government Seoul Office in Jongno-gu, Seoul, “What we have clearly learned over the past few years is that a society divided to the extreme leads only to unhappiness and that no one's dreams can be realized.”
Acting Prime Minister Han returned to his duties as Acting President and Prime Minister after 87 days following the Constitutional Court's ruling on the impeachment motion.
Acting Prime Minister Han stated, “During the period when my duties were suspended, I deeply contemplated two things,” adding, “When I returned to serve my duties, I reflected on what the most urgent tasks were for the Republic of Korea.”
He continued, “The world is now facing intense U.S.-China great power competition following the inauguration of President Trump and a new geopolitical metamorphosis, along with a reorganization of the economic order,” and “As Acting President, I will do my utmost to ensure stable national governance in accordance with the Constitution and laws while pouring all wisdom and capabilities into securing our national interests in the trade war that has already arrived.”
He also noted, “I will base all judgments made during the remaining period on the interests of the Republic of Korea’s industry and future generations,” emphasizing, “The entire Cabinet will work alongside me.”
He added, “The majority of our citizens, whom I have served for nearly 50 years, did not wish for the country to lean to the left or the right, but they wanted to rise up and move forward.”
Acting Prime Minister Han remarked, “Even if our positions and thoughts differ, we all share the dream of going up and moving forward together,” and added, “The ruling and opposition parties, as well as the government, must truly change, starting with myself.”
He concluded, “I will put in my all to ensure that bipartisan cooperation can progress major national issues with stability and speed,” and asserted, “I will listen to every voice that needs to be heard solely with the country and all citizens in mind so that the Republic of Korea can advance into an age of reason and common sense.”
