Seok Dong-hyeon, a lawyer representing President Yoon Suk-yeol, claimed regarding the incident where Rep. Baek Hye-ryun of the Democratic Party was hit by an egg while holding a press conference urging the impeachment of President Yoon in front of the Constitutional Court, that it was "clearly a self-made drama or 99% a staged act."
Seok, who is part of the legal team for the president and leads the National Citizens' Lawyers Group, a support group for President Yoon, stated on his Facebook on the 21st, "There is controversy over whether the incident (the egg-throwing) was a self-made drama by Democratic lawmakers aimed at dispersing the crowd opposing impeachment. I also believe it is clearly a self-made drama or 99% a staged act."
Seok pointed out, "What’s the difference if you suddenly appear in front of hundreds of citizens who tearfully shout against impeachment day and night, and shout 'impeach him' for political propaganda, asking them to ‘spit on my face’ or ‘at least slap me’".
He continued, "If you are not a fool, isn't it something you should do when you are loudly asserting your voice in front of the Constitutional Court, where public opinions are sharply divided? You should be prepared not only for insults and eggs but also for being stoned by citizens opposing you."
He added, "Shouldn't the lawmakers who were hit by the eggs and their companions (if they are true politicians) say, 'Aren’t you the citizens who came out with love for the country? Although you gave me this egg today, it shouldn't be done like this. Let’s never resort to violence under any circumstances'?" He expressed disappointment at the level of thoughtlessness exhibited by a lawmaker who, instead of doing that, quickly ran to the police, shouting, 'Find the culprit!'
Earlier, on the morning of the 20th, Rep. Baek and other Democratic lawmakers, including Rep. Lee Geon-tae, were holding a press conference in front of the Constitutional Court urging the rapid impeachment of President Yoon when an egg thrown from across the sidewalk hit her in the face. The police have not caught the suspect at the scene and are currently tracking them.
