Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, urged the Constitutional Court to swiftly rule on the impeachment trial of President Yoon Suk-yeol. The Court also expressed dissatisfaction with the delay in the trial of Minister Park Sung-jae's impeachment after recently starting the argument phase.
On the 18th, Lee noted on his social media service (SNS) that "Member of the National Assembly Min Hyung-bae, who has fasted for eight days demanding a swift ruling on the president's removal, has collapsed and been taken to the hospital," adding, "The Court's ruling is being delayed without understandable reasons, causing many citizens to lose sleep."
He questioned, "Which citizen would accept the Court's delay in ruling on the president's impeachment while it has even started proceedings regarding Minister Park Sung-jae's impeachment?" He stated, "It is hard to understand that the Court, which spoke of prioritizing the 'president's impeachment trial,' is delaying its ruling while starting to handle other cases."
That afternoon, Lee will visit Gwangju to pay his respects at the mortuary of a member in their 60s from the Democratic Party who died while fasting, urging the president's removal.
Lee said, "It is regrettable to think of the cold that swept through overnight and the sad news of our comrade in Gwangju." He continued, "We must end the national chaos as soon as possible. I request a swift ruling on the removal to prevent further loss of life among those who are fasting."
